Why me...

Before I was offered this opportunity as a student blogger, I had a brief phone interview (or something along those lines) with Jake Yale, one of the faculty advisors for the Student Bloggers this year (you can read his blog on here too). While we talked, we were discussing the pros and cons of me being a blogger.
But really, why me? I'm a super senior. I'm NOT at Clarion, and this is partially supposed to attract potential students to Clarion University. The list could go on (but I can't think of the other noted reasons at the moment)...

Well... I've figured out why.

1) First of all, I'm in MANY ways like a freshman. I've just moved to a new scary place where I don't know anyone. I have a whole set of friends back "home" (at CU... and originally from Clarion) and have to make a whole new set of friends in Pittsburgh. Luckily, for freshman, there are tons of other people in the same boat as you. It's much easier to make friends at college than you'd think, especially if you're living in the dorms, or even at Reinhard (the super snazzy townhouses associated with Clarion University).

2) Being a "townie", I MAY be able to pass on useful information that othes may not be able... that makes me special...

3) I just had my first experience at the laundromat... Which has given me my topic for this blog...

Okay, well that's a lie. I went to the laundromat once before. But that was like three years ago (seriously), and it was ONLY because I had put off doing laundry for so long that it was much more logical to just go to the laundromat and use 4 washers and 4 dryers, rather than do 4 loads of laundry. I think someone helped me that time.

So here I am... in some cropped yoga pants (although it's freezing out) cause I'm washing all of my sweats and all of my jeans. I haven't showered in nearly a day and a half (I know, gross), and I have this HUGEEEEEE hat on my head to hide the hideousity of my greasy hair.
*Hideousity is a word that I just made up. I make up a lot of words. I refer to them as words from the Alitionary.

ANYWHOOOOOO, I drag my duffle bag and hamper full of clothes into the laundromat, get much more money in quarters than it turns out I need, and I head to the washing machines. How the HECK do you work these things?
The washer at my house in Clarion was so easy. Turn the knob, press go. THIS WASHER has directions? And buttons to press? And places to put detergent? And a slot for change?
AAAAAAA!!! So I sort of wander around for a few seconds, trying to figure out what I'm doing, looking like an obvious idiot, and then FINALLY figure it out. I shove entirely too much clothing into two washers...
One dark load (and colors, and some lightish things) into a washer, and start the load. I try to call my dad to see if I should use hot water, warm water, or cold water for dark loads (cause I don't know) but he doesn't answer-- neither does my mom.
... and one light load (mainly whites... some gray's thrown in there, and a couple yellow towels that I pray qualify as lights)... No heat selection for that load, since I've decided to wash my light clothes on the DELICATE cycle. I threw some clothes in that load that said "Hand Wash Only" on the tag... but since I don't really know how to accurately handwash clothes, I figured that washing clothes on the delicate cycle would be okay...

Time to sit and wait. At least you college kids can do your homework at this point. *I* have no homework, since my work is all done while I'm at my internship. So, I sit in this old movie theater chair (why they're there? I dont know.) and wait for my clothes to be done.

Once my clothes are done in the washer, I discover that I can dry both loads in ONE dryer!!! SCORE!!! Money saved for a rainy day :). (Did I seriously just say score? Yuck.) The process of actually drying the clothes turns out to be much easier than starting the washer. However, I STILL call my dad, just to make sure than washing clothes on high heat was okay, and that 48 minutes in the dryer would be enough time. Turns out, I did everything right to my knowledge. Nothing is a new, weird color. Nothing is ruined. All is well. I survived my first REAL laundromat experience.

Don't get me wrong. I want to specify that I DO know how to do laundry. I just had difficulties this time. At the house in Clarion that I lived at, I ALWAYS put the washer on the same setting. I ALWAYS set the knob on the dryer to the same point. I didn't seperate clothes. I didn't care. But I DID know how to do laundry.

Okay, so anyways. That was my laundromat experience. Useful information to those who will someday have to use a laundromat for the first time. Just know that you're not alone. After the first time, things SHOULD get easier.

See, I DO have knowledgeable things to say for young students preparing to transition into the wonderful world of college. Maybe eventually, I'll write a blog on all of the things that I've learned over my five years here. Or at least some of the things. That might be interesting.

Anyways, things are still good at the internship. My past week was a little crazy, so since the last time that I wrote, not much has happened at JHC.
Jack Horner (the owner, obviously) is in Pittsburgh. He typically works out of Philadelphia, since he just opened a Philly office within the past few years, but he comes back periodically to make sure that we're still doing quality work here :).
No worries Jack, we're a bunch of hard workers. We'll make you proud.

Umm... I think that's all I've got. I might come home for a night this weekend to get a haircut, and see my friend from highschool before she moves to North Carolina, but this will be another one of those "Less than 24 hours" trips home. I'll be sure to let all of my Clarion friends know when I'm planning on coming home for more than just a day. I'm thinking the week after CU's Spring Break, I'll declare my own "Spring Break", where I'll come to Clarion for 3-4 days. Updates to come.

My stomach is growling... and I've already eaten two small meals today... and it's only 11:07... ... ... Better go feed myself, since I can (It's Fat Tuesday!!! Happy Fat Tuesday everyone!!!)
